Idiocy means so many things to so many people, and at HIV we are blessed with an
abundancy of natural idiots. So the only way to distinguish a true idiot from a run-of-the-mill idiot is to give them a distictive
hat.
Introduced in early 2005 by Muka
Puki for no known reason other than to have something different to do one Monday evening, the Village Idiot Hat
has gone on to become a favorite amongst the worthy candidtates of the HIV pack.
The VI Hat (there's those Roman numerals again) is awarded on an irregular
basis to HIVer's "for acts of stupidity above and beyond the call of Hash". And
fear not, there are plenty of those throughout a year of HIV Hashing.
In fact, it is almost impossible not to land the VIH (VIH.....HIV.....it's
pretty spooky) at some stage. Merely showing up for HIV on a regular basis shows that you are operating a few brain cells
short of your standard retard.
The VIH is held by the recipient until another worthy
recipient is found. Sometimes that can be months, other times it will turn over on a weekly basis. Except if you are Mr. Squiggles, who once in possession of the VI Hat, applies very lofty standards to the act of stupidity that will force him to depart
with said hat.
Being the Village Idiot also entitles you to be the GM's bitch. You are likely
to be called in for a down-down at any stage, no reason necessary. Just grin and bear it, while everyone is thankful it is
you, not them, out there on a whim.
So rock along to HIV, have a laugh at the Village Idiot's expense, and in
turn, be prepared to be laughed at yourself!!
Remember, taking yourself seriously at Hash, and especially HIV, is a sure
way to find yourself on the outer.
